Bezels, Emoji's........That's It !!!

The Smart Phone, an indispensable part of our lives has undergone draconian changes in the last 4-5 years. Smartphone giants like Samsung and Apple, known as godfathers of this industry, have inspired various small brands to reach the level of innovation that was desired by people, and has led to a healthy competition among the giants and the underdogs.

The year of 2017, saw a change in the outside appearance of what a smartphone can be. Yes, you guessed it right, the 'Bezel-less' display of phones. The new era of design started with launch of the Galaxy S8 at Mobile World Congress 2017. Though the design looked futuristic, it was not the type of change some of the phono-holics desired. Samsung CEO, was so overwhelmingly excited about this newly termed 'Infinity Display', that the entire smartphone industry decided to follow the same footsteps throughout the year. Even the launch of iPhone X later in the year, solely focused on the beauty of the device, and ended up making a hazardous iOS 11 software which really frustrated millions of users. This truly was Apple's lowest quality software ever!!

I would like to make a reference to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle which states that, "If you try to measure one physical quantity with greater accuracy, the other quantities themselves become less accurate." And this has truly been the story of  the smartphone industry in the year of 2017.

The Infinity Display

The Emoji's  😀😌😭

Another unexpected change we all witnessed is in the approach of smartphone makers. The smartphone has become a paramount part of our lives and has literally changed the way people communicate with each other. There are no more letters written. The only thing we now are concerned about are chats and posts. Recent surveys suggest that the average time spent by people on their smartphone chatting and viewing posts is a staggering 7-8 hours a day. And to further amp this up Apple and Samsung have come up with the idea of Animated Emojis and Augmented Reality Emojis. I personally feel that this change is certainly not enough to entice users to buy 800-1000K smartphone, but definitely make people spend the "same amount" of money on deteriorating health due to the harmful radiations from these devices.

The Endless Possibilities

The developments in the smartphone industry from the beginning of 2017 to the recently launched flagship, Galaxy S9, has rather been disappointing. Rather than working on kiddish features like emoji's and the slightly revamped designs, it's time for all brands to make ground breaking strides in the smartphone era. The possibilities are endless. Imagine having a smartphone with dual displays, a smartphone with a dual software, a smartphone that doesn't require charging for a month, and a smartphone that is free of harmful radiations that affects the nervous system. Also, in order to make an impact each brand must adopt a different approach so that their products are radically different and make people think which device suits their needs the best.

All these plethora of innovations are very much achievable and brands like Samsung, Apple, Google, OnePlus, Nokia and many more have shown their potential to innovate and create. We hope the year of 2018 will really make the smartphone a Smarter Phone.
